Malaria Prevention Prices
This risk of catching malaria is increased when you travel to a country that has a high risk factor, and you haven’t taken the proper precautions to prevent being bitten by mosquitoes. It is virtually impossible to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, but if you take the correct precautions, your risk of getting malaria is greatly reduced.
At Wimbledon Park Travel Clinic, we have information on Malaria which informs you of areas which carry the greater risks. There are several types of anti malarial tablets available, the type of which you will need all dependent on factors such as area(s) to be visited, length of stay, type of travel, your own medical history and other medication being taken.
The prophylactic effect of anti malarials does not begin immediately upon initiating the treatment. Travellers visiting areas with malaria risk, will usually begin taking the anti malaria medication 1-2 weeks before entering the endemic area, and must continue taking them for 4 weeks after leaving the area (with the exception of Malarone (Atovaquone/Progaunil) that only needs to be started 2 days prior, and continued for a week afterwards).
